True Love Does Exist

3:53 AM

Lately I've seen a lot of Oma - Opa couples are still enjoying their romantic life by showing off their affections towards each other in public. It was like they just got married yesterday.

One day on a spring time when it was super windy, I was cycling to my friend's house and I saw old couples standing behind each other on the halte bus. The Grand Ma was hugging the Grand Pa from behind like he was trying to protect her from the strong wind. That scene, absolutely, completely made my day.

In a place like Netherlands where 'casual sex' is freely allowed and only few people really want to get married, the scene was really a big surprise for me. I've never seen any like that in Indonesia, even when my Grand Pa still alive, I've never ever saw my grand parents did any romantic attitudes towards each other.

Then Kak Yuti and I went for a discussion and she thinks that it has something to do with their FREE and FULL authority to decide what they're going to do with their life.

Unlike in Indonesia, in some cases when you're a woman and heading up to 30 years old and haven't married yet, you'll get that kind of 'judgement' from your environment. Then, when your parents found someone for you, you just get married because you can't stand being in that kind of 'public judgement' any longer. Even if you don't 'like' your parents choice, you will just go with it, and of course with an unhappy marriage, there will come the troubles. Then when you think you had enough and you want to divorce, AGAIN, 'public judgement' will take over. Gosh, it's like a devil circle, whenever it ends, it turns bad.

But here, it's like no one really care whether you're going to stay single or get married. It's a personal business and it leads to a strong commitment when they decided to get married, regarding that not much people are really want that kind of relationship here.

I think one of the reason of their commitment is because they know that they have found "The One", like they know that they are meant to be together, a soul mate, like they believe they found a friend of their life who will accompany them till the world ends. Sounds very cliche, but it is true.

I do believe true love does exist, by the way.

Really this is the most girly thing I've ever post.
